Worse than our 7 year old WED4850HW

We had a WED4850HW for 7 years and loved it. It stopped working and we needed a replacement fast. We wanted a WED4950HW but it couldn't be delivered for a week. The WED6150PW could be deliver the next day so we bought it. There is a Timed dry cycle but we can't set the time. We have to use preset times. So we have to set an external timer to know when the clothes are dry. And when the time finishes, the dryer doesn't always power off so it's wasting electricity. There is no manual to explain the different cycles. The "Owner's Manual" is only for installation. And we are not interested in the Sensor Drying or the Steam Refresh.

No More Wrinkles

Our Whirlpool dryer is awesome! We decided to splurge and get the steam feature which I™€™ve already used several times. It is a quick way to get wrinkles out of clothes and sheets. This eliminates having to iron, which makes me very happy. The dryer is so much quieter than our old dryer. I always turn on the wrinkle out feature in case I forget to unload it right away. Highly recommend!

To begin with, we bought the dryer as a return because we didn't want/could spend $800-$1000 for a clothes dryer that had a pre-planned life of just a few years. Meaning a "part" might have a 10 year warranty, but the rest was just a year or 2. With that said, it dries clothes ok. It seems to have plenty of heat and we use the medium setting for heat vs high like our old one. I like that it has a moisture setting for less, normal, and more dry. This is accurate for my needs, meaning that most clothes normal is a good setting, but "more dry" is needed for my heavy work pants or bulky items. The feature that was new to me was the steam refresh. I tried that on a bunch of shirts that had been stuffed in the drawer and crunched together. It did a very good job getting the wrinkles out without a need to iron or rewash. The feature that I found totally inadequate was the end of cycle alarm. I had made a service appointment because I believed it didn't work. After many cycles, I discovered that it did work, it just was so soft and high pitched that I couldn't hear it over the normal rumble of the drum operating unless I was standing beside the dryer . Other models have a volume control; this one does not. Your choice is weak and pathetic or off. And that™€™s what you get for a $900 machine resold at $500™€¦which in my opinion; is still too much.

Will this dryer get your laundry dry? Yes. Is it efficient? No. Sensor drying doesn™€™t complete the job requiring to restart on a timed dry for everything to get thoroughly dried. Perhaps mine is just defective and it™€™s not indicative of this particular model. But based on my experience I would not recommend this unit.

Controls are not intuitive. Have to read the manual to even understand settings. Dry sensing is poor at best. Will run for an hour on high heat and clothes are still wet, not damp, wet. Very disappointing machine through the first month of ownership.

I love the Whirlpool brand and reputation. There is one looming problem in that with all of the years and history of designing appliances, I cannot believe the chintsey door latch. It is hard to latch, noisy to latch, hard to open the door and will most likely break within a short time under normal use because of the difficult latch and unlatch process.

I purchased this dryer in July 25 and now that I have used it for a while I can provide feedback. The dryer appears to dry appropriately based on the selections. The lint screen is flimsy. The closing of the door is difficult. It wants to dent as you try to get it to "snap" together. I generally have to use my outer thigh to push it in to lock. I have used the Steam Refresh several times and at the end of the cycle I notice a puddle of water on the floor near the front left corner.

I have owned Whirlpool washer and dryers for the past 30 years. This unit doesn't dry as well as my past Whirlpool Dryer, similar size that I purchased 12 years ago. Jeans and towels need to go through two cycles. It is also very noisy, when drum spinning, compared to my past unit. The noise is a tinny metal sound.

Owned about two weeks, long enough to do several loads. Large enough that I don't have to several small loads. Dries clothes literally in half the time. However, I live in proximity to the Navy's master fighter base in Virginia Beach and this machine is loud enough to drown them out when the fly overhead. We only use timed dry thus far.

It's still relatively new to us, but we can offer some feedback. First, fresh out of the shipping box, it didn't work. No response to any control panel input. Arranged warranty service through the Whirlpool website. Received prompt service. Technician found an electrical connector not connected in the control panel enclosure. Not something that would come loose if properly connected at the factory. Poor quality control. After it was repaired, it seems to work as expected. The automatic cycle works great. Doesn't overdry. Haven't tried the timed cycle. Other than the initial issue, my only criticism would be that the end of cycle buzzer is not very loud. If you are a couple of rooms away, you probably won't hear it.

Whirlpool Sends damaged items and doesn™€™t resolve

Ordered online from Lowe™€™s. It was delivered damaged. Couldn™€™t have passed a quality inspection. I™€™ve called to request a replacement, hold for more than 45 mins each time I have to call. No one from customer service is able to find any documentation of my request even though they sent out a 3rd party consultant to document the issues. Neither whirlpool or their 3rd party consultants have provided any updates and it™€™s been weeks. This is the worst customer service experience I™€™ve encountered. Spending hours calling to follow up to get no solution or service. Can™€™t say I™€™d give this 1 whole star but it required.

The appliance is good and serves its need. The automatic sensor, however, does not completely dry the clothes . I™€™m generally forced to use the ™€œmore dry™€ cycle on every load. Also noticed that the metal on the dryer are thinner and not as solid as previous models. Of course, this doesn™€™t affect the operation.
